Right now in this community students are facing challenges like bullying, homelessness, hunger, untreated medical and dental issues, lack of self-esteem, and thoughts and attempts of suicide.
The mission of Communities In Schools of South Central Texas (CIS) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS offers students opportunities to participate in drop-out prevention, college readiness, and mentoring programs. CIS also offers the Youth Mental Health First Aid and Signs of Suicide programs in order to address the mental health needs of youth. All CIS services and programs support the goal of providing safe and healthy environments for students both at school and at home for the good of our community.
Our comprehensive services, including supportive guidance, mental health intervention, basic life needs support, tutoring, and college preparation assistance, reach over 4,000 students through professional site coordinators present daily in schools. Thanks to the support of 300+ local businesses, social service agencies, churches, and volunteers, every student in need receives vital assistance.
CIS collaborates with schools to connect students and families to tailored community resources, addressing health, behavioral, and family crises. Serving students facing challenges such as poverty, substance abuse, and poor mental health, CIS ensures safe and healthy environments both at school and at home. Our proven model, rooted in national research and community relationships, has positively impacted thousands of students and alumni over the past three decades.
